  • Gastric Bypass & Plastic Surgery Malpractice

    Gastric Bypass Complications

This is a major procedure with possible complications that requires careful consideration by the patient.

While most people make it through gastric-bypass surgery safely, some suffer painful complications and a small percentage never make it out of the hospital.

If severe injury has occurred and you feel you are not to blame contact our law office as soon as possible.

Has this happened to you or someone you know?

Contact our Minnesota Medical Malpractice Attorney for gastric bypass surgery errors.

A Case Study: Indications: A 30-year-old female with a long history of morbid obesity, recently underwent silastic gastric banding, and due to reflux disease, subsequently required a procedure to loosen the band. Most recently she has experienced significant reflux disease, and presents for removal of her band and open Roux-en - Y gastric bypass.

Do you suspect your gastric bypass process was damaged from medical negligence, lack of body test or other standard pre-tests?

Have you had the Bypass or a similar Morbid Obesity surgery?

Are you suffering from untold problems?

Do you think your hospital or doctor has made an error in your Gastric Bypass / Obesity surgery?

There are many benefits but if you have suffered a negligence from this surgery or treatment it is very important to see a doctor and then contact our law offices to receive your legal options. You should not have to suffer from medical errors or medical surgery complications caused by doctor error.

    What are the possible complications?

In general, serious complications related to this surgery are infrequent. Minor complications such as wound infection may occur in up to 10% of these cases, and mortality is less than 2%. Other complications can occur depending on the individual. Your doctor will detail all possible complications during your surgical consultation.

How will surgery affect my other medical problems?

The degree of improvement of various obesity related medical problems depends on the extent of the illness and the amount of time the patient has had it. The longer the patient has had the condition, the less likely it is for it to completely resolve after surgery. In general, more than half of the surgery patients find an improvement of their hypertension associated with diabetes, and will become asymptomatic, improve or completely resolve their obesity related respiratory problems. In addition, surgery may resolve, or significantly improve a patient's diabetes. Joint and back pain associated with obesity may resolve or improve as well.

Types of Surgery for Morbid Obesity

Vertical banded gastroplasty: The most common restriction operation which reduces the stomach's capacity. The regular sequence of the digestive tract is maintained.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass: Primarily a restriction operation which also limits the amount of absorption by bypassing the duodenum.
